I think I'm moulding...

Really mother nature?? Is that all you've got?? I say bring it....Ok...stop now....

Since rain seems to be the theme of the summer, it's a good thing that Hardwood Hills did not disappoint for us on Saturday - did the Duke's Epic 8 Hr. Relay with Rocket Rocky, ShannonFeisty-pants, and Smiley Jen, and it was once again, an epic, rainy, mudfest.

Rocky, ready to tackle the mud...

And Shannon contemplating another lap...
We set up in the rain, then the sky broke for a moment - looked promising, but then it opened up again - broke again, and then finally opened again, and stayed at a downpour for the duration. We all raced really well despite, putting in some pretty fast lap times, and feeling the rush of tight competition. My Maxxis Medusa's came in handy as the course started to deteriorate, until finally they cut out a chunk of course that was too slick (sound familiar???).
Finally, at 5:15, 45 mins. early, they called the race. We were happy to hammer out 3 solid laps each, putting us handily in 1st place! I really enjoy racing with these guys, so all in all a fantastic day. I even managed to hold the winning ticket for the bike draw at the end, and came home with a brand new Opus Urbanista!
Woo hoo! Now off to put my little dog in the basket, and cruise to town for a baguette and some market fresh veggies...oh lal la...;)

And of course, Team Speed was out in full effects as well!
Note the barefoot - shoe of choice for the day...
Spent the rest of the weekend trying to dry out to no avail. My cabin on the island had leaked like a sieve, so my sleeps were good and soggy - but the sound of rain, waves lapping the shore, and snoring dogs made it all worthwhile.

On Sunday I met up with Droo, Jim and Karah for a good spin from Jim's into Windermere for dinner at the pub, and the sun actually came out!!! Nice evening, but the ride home was brutal after being so relaxed - too many hills!! Sweet way to end the weekend.

Monday I stayed north to pick berries, and ending up making a wicked tea cake...enjoy!

Summer Berry (or Fall fruit...or anything you like...) Tea Cake:

2 1/2 cups spelt flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1tsp. celtic sea salt
1c. sucanat or sweetener of choice to fit...agave and honey or maple would work - or coconut
1/2 c. butter - room temp. - could use coconut oil
3 eggs
1 Tb. (yes) vanilla (homemade is best!!)
2 1/2 cups fruit - blueberries and raspberries (or stone fruit chopped, or...?)
Mix the dry - cream butter and sugar - add eggs one at a time beating 'till fluffy - add vanilla - fold dry quickly into wet. Chill dough for 30 mins.
Place 1/2 of the dough into greased tart shell or 8x8 pan. Top w/ fruit; crumble on rest of dough - bake at 350F for 30-40 mins.
